Celebrates Earth Day & National Volunteer Week
Director's Note

What interesting times we live in! 2020 seemed so full of promise when the new year dawned. We had big plans, big ideas and no shortage of ambition. Then we learned a new vocabulary and a whole new way of living. Social Distancing, COVID-19, Virtual, Public Health Advisories, Zoom, Safer @ Home and more. Suddenly we weren’t talking about cleanups happening all around the state as part of the annual Great American Cleanup/Trash-Off. Our volunteers were restless. Our affiliates worked hard to reschedule or recreate the many cleanup and beautification events that were planned for the spring and boy did they shine. This newsletter highlights the creativity of the Florida Affiliates during this public health crisis and serves to remind everyone that the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22 is still real and worthy of celebrating. It is also worth noting that National Volunteer Week is happening April 19-25. While the celebrations may be more of a virtual nature, the respect and appreciation for how far we’ve come remains steadfast. We all look forward to resuming our normal activities one day but for now, here’s hoping you make the most of this new normal and keep doing your part.

Executive Director, Keep Florida Beautiful

April 22, 2020 marks the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day - a worldwide movement raising public awareness for environmental protection.

While the global pandemic has shifted plans for many Earth Day celebrations around the world, the Earth Day Network has worked to preserve this momentous anniversary with Earth Day Live.

In Florida, KFB Affiliates are no strangers to the resiliency required to make the most of this environmental celebration despite setbacks from the novel coronavirus.

We celebrate Earth Day today and everyday!
